Chamberlain Scholarship

The AFP WNY Chapter, along with the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy, offers the Chamberlain Scholarship annually to help a first-time conference attendee join international fundraising leaders at the AFP International Fundraising Conference.

Dedication to the professional advancement of members
Each year AFP WNY selects a development professional member from Western New York who has a commitment to the profession, and to our chapter, to receive the Chamberlain Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship is intended to help a first-time attendee defer costs associated with attending the annual AFP International Conference (ICON). It is a wonderful opportunity for fundraisers to enhance their skills to do the best job possible for the organizations they represent.

Go to San Antonio on Us!
The next AFP International Fundraising Conference (ICON) is taking place March 31 to April 2, 2019, in San Antonio, TX. Applications will be accepted for the 2019 Chamberlain Scholarship beginning in August. Review the criteria and application HERE.

From a 2017 Chamberlain Scholarship Recipient:
"The AFP International Conference gave me a greater insight into best practices of fundraising. There were a wide range of sessions to choose from, which allowed me to tailor the experience to my personal needs and interests. I found that the content provided value at both a beginner and advanced level, and was delivered by talented speakers who really kept me engaged."

- Jaclyn Rossi, Director, Alumni and Government Relations, Niagara University

From a 2018 Chamberlain Scholarship Recipient:
"I had the privilege of attending the International Conference in New Orleans, LA as a Chamberlain Scholarship recipient. I had an amazing experience and truly enjoyed all the educational sessions, networking opportunities, and the chance to meet with other cultural fundraisers from all over the country. As a long-time AFP Member, the experience was invigorating and I have new energy and ideas that I will apply to my fundraising efforts at the Buffalo Botanical Gardens. I am truly grateful."

- Brittany Zandi, Director of Development, Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens Society, Inc.

'19 AFP International Fundraising Conference, San Antonio

"There's nothing like being a part of nearly 4,000 fundraisers, gathered together for three days of networking, sharing and learning. I love when our community comes together. It's a time for innovation, exploration, inspiration and participating. I look forward to seeing everyone and celebrating the profession and everything that we make possible. You'll leave inspired and reinvigorated about your place in the fundraising community and the work you do every day that makes such a difference in the world."

- Jason Lee, JD, 2017 interim President and CEO, Association of Fundraising Professionals

About the AFP Chamberlain Scholarship Program
The Chamberlain Scholarship Program honors Ralph Chamberlain, CFRE, a long-time fundraiser and supporter of AFP. Mr. Chamberlain helped to form one of the organization's first chapters, the Greater New York Chapter, and served as both chair of the association and the AFP Foundation. Because of his long-time support of the Foundation for Philanthropy, the AFP Board of Directors renamed the Conference Scholar Program in 2000 to honor Mr. Chamberlain's memory and commitment to the fundraising profession.
